چکیده

Caviomorph rodents became important components of South American faunas after their Eocene arrival from Africa. Here we describe the cavioid, chinchilloid, and erethizontoid caviomorphs early Miocene Pampa Castillo fauna southern Chile. This fauna's age location make it key for resolving outstanding biostratigraphic questions concerning Patagonian fossiliferous strata. Each four major caviomorph clades (“superfamilies”) is represented in fauna, three whose members are detailed here: cavioids (3 genera; 3 species), chinchilloids 6 erethizontoids (2 2 species). Abundantly taxa, e.g., Neoreomys australis, Perimys erutus, Prolagostomus pusillus, corroborate previous work assigning to Santacrucian Land Mammal “Age” (SALMA; inclusive “Pinturan”). Several including Eosteiromys, intermedius, sp. nov.?, also found lower middle Pinturas Formation (lmPF) but not “core” (from Santa Cruz [SCF] along Río Atlantic coast), suggesting a distinctive resemblance between lmPF rodents. Some authors consider form basis “Pinturan” SALMA or subage, considered slightly predate core faunas, which has yet be formally recognized. The taxonomic composition rodent Castillo, as well relative abundance data, indicated paleoenvironment intermediate closed forests mosaic open habitats SCF.

Pseudomeriones hansi nov. sp. (Rodentia, Mammalia) from the Early Pliocene (Ruscinian) Fauna of I deli (Turkey)

Pseudomeriones hansi nov. sp. is described from deli locality (SW Sivas, Central Anatolia). The morphological description of the new species is given within its own systematic and stratigraphic relationships. The micromammalian fauna of deli gives evidence for a new species which is characterized by its small size, its M2 with a deep lingual sinus curved backward and its m1 with a symmetric tri...

Late Pleistocene echimyid rodents (Rodentia, Hystricognathi) from northern Brazil.

Echimyidae (spiny rats, tree rats and the coypu) is the most diverse family of extant South American hystricognath rodents (caviomorphs). Today, they live in tropical forests (Amazonian, coastal and Andean forests), occasionally in more open xeric habitats in the Cerrado and Caatinga of northern South America, and open areas across the southern portion of the continent (Myocastor). The Quaterna...

New Pedetidae (Rodentia: Mammalia) from the Mio- Pliocene of Africa Nuevos Pedetidae (Rodentia: Mammalia) del Mio-Plioceno de Africa

Pedetidae, or springhares, are represented by a single extant genus (Pedetes) and five extinct ones (Parapedetes, Megapedetes, Propedetes, Rusingapedetes and Oldrichpedetes of which the latter two are new). The fossil record of pedetids tends to be scanty, but remains have been found in Southern Africa, East Africa, the Maghreb, the Arabian Peninsula, Turkey and Greece. Most of the localities h...

New Hyaenodonts (ferae, Mammalia) from the Early Miocene of Napak (uganda), Koru (kenya) and Grillental (namibia)

Recent palaeontological surveys in Early Miocene sediments at Napak (Uganda), Koru (Kenya) and Grillental (Namibia) have resulted in the collection of a number of small to medium-sized hyaenodonts and carnivorans, some of which were poorly represented in previous collections. The present article describes and interprets the hyaenodonts from these localities. The new fossils permit more accurate...

Rhinocerotidae (Mammalia) from the Late Miocene of Bulgaria

We describe the remains of Rhinocerotidae from about 10 Late Miocene localities of Bulgaria, the main ones being Kalimantsi and Hadjidimovo, and the newly discovered site of Strumyani. At least seven species are represented, mostly by cranial elements. A skull is assigned to Chilotherium kiliasi, a species for which a new sub-genus, Eochilotherium, is established. Some fragmentary remains are r...
